At Tails of Terra Linda we believe training should strengthen the bond between human and companion animal. We do this through positive reinforcement training. This approach is not only used with our training programs and classes, but throughout our day-to-day interaction with your pets. Positive reinforcement is a compassionate, yet science-based training that can help provide the tools a dog needs to thrive in what is not always a dog-friendly world.

Before studying to become a dog trainer, Lisa worked as a Clinical Social Worker for over twenty years with children, adults and families. She helped people improve relationships in difficult situations; parents understand children, couples understand each other and people from diverse backgrounds and cultures work better together. In her clinical practice, she started working with dogs as a way to facilitate work with clients who had difficulties communicating with each other or with whom she had trouble communicating. It worked wonderfully well.
As both a trained psychotherapist and a dog behaviorist, Lisa understands the difference between human’s emotional needs and dog’s emotional needs. Because dogs often exhibit behavioral issues when they are treated like furry humans, Lisa works to help dog owners understand their dogs' emotional needs and build better relationships between dogs and their humans.
When Lisa decided to change careers, she had an important mission in mind; the goal of keeping dogs in their homes and, most importantly, out of shelters through supporting and training owners. She does this in two ways; by helping dogs who have behavioral issues and by working with owners to prevent behavioral issues. Both types of training focus on building solid relationships that meet the needs of the people and their dogs.
Through effective, solution-based training, we can prevent and solve behavioral problems, the main cause of owner surrender of dogs to shelters.
Putting the time and effort into the relationship with your dog will create a confident and happy dog...and a much more confident and happy owner.
